Things I have to tell No 1....!

for my children
I tilt at windmills......
and just sometimes I win!!!

                                                                Ted Szukalski

As part of the lovely award
karina
presented me with
I have to tell
6 things about me
that you don't know

I figure I can drag this out a bit
Karina did not say I had to tell all at once!!

                                                                                                                                           painting by Frank Stock

I love the old style windmill, dragon style!
though I don't mind the modern green ones either

so if you
 know your classics
you will understand why
I also quite fancy dragons

                                                                                                                          here

But the real thing I have to tell

is

that
 I collect Don Quixote

This was my first piece
my family bought it for me
after I fell hopelessly in love with it
It makes me laugh!!!

I don't have an extensive collection
some pieces are old some new
most pieces came to me with a story
and often the story is as
important as the piece itself

Goodnight

  1. Do you like the wind farm windmills Julienne. I know that some people hate them, but driving back into Canberra this afternoon from Sydney, I love to see them out beyond Lake George. And Don Quixote...you would have to be the first person I know who has that as the basis for a collection. Show and tell more!! And many congratulations on your award. I know I'm in great company when I call myself a fan of your work! :)

  2. Kerry I love them they are like great sculptures on the landscape and if you stand near them (at Crookwell) you can hear them sing.

My collection is small but I fell in love with the book when i was still at school so I named my pony Rosinante!!!

  3. Congratulations on your lovely award Julienne, it is not a surprise to me at all and I am absolutely certain that there will be many many more headed your way:) I love that you are going to share some things about yourself! Love the fact you like windmills, I also like them but have not yet seen a windfarm turbine in person. I hope you will share some more of your Don Quixote collection, like Kerry, I have never known anyone with such a collection. I like it!! Wishing you a wonderful week and thank you so much for your very sweet words on Bella's bedroom, you really are so very lovely ~ Tina x

  4. Julienne, it's lovely to know these things about you! I love the old windmills and there are quite a few in England but like you I think the newer ones are also very majestic.. there are quite a few in Northern France (new ones to harness the wind's power for energy) - a lot of people hate these (they think they are ugly.) However I think it is great that we are using something clean and free in this way. And I have never yet met any one with a Don Quixote collection either - maybe it's unique! x

  5. When I was in Germany, traveling on the autobahn, I was amazed and delighted to see the windmills.
Energy, without killing fish and ruining waters. Energy without blowing up mountains to get to the coal.

We are hopelessly behind in America. But soon, I hope, we will see more.

Your collection is perfectly charming, a little quirky and what we have come to love about you.

  8. I'm a windmill lover too - from the old ones in the Netherlands and Denmark to the new turbines on the edge of the island. As for tilting at them - well I make it a practice to have a go at one on a regular basis!
