We will survive this disastrous summer......!

It started at the beginning of our summer
with our  little flood
that we thought such a disaster

ruined crops, roads and fences

Little did we realise what was in store for
Toowoomba, the Lockyer Valley, Ipswich
 and Brisbane
as the rain continued to fall and fall

As we were recovering from this
the news that Victoria was suffering it's own destructive flooding
and more and more people were losing their life's belongings

then Western Australia was fighting
out of control fires

toodyay fires wide
                                                                                                     image from here

But Queensland was still in the line of fire as Cyclone Yasi
came hurtling towards the coast

                                                                                                                                            for more photos go here

and cyclone Carlos drowned Darwin with
26 inches of rain in four hours

                                                                                                                                                                         from here

and, as all across Australia,
we struggled to cope with the aftermath
of so many major disasters

we were not prepared for the news
out of New Zealand at lunchtime today

[Christchurch earthquake]
                                                                                                                                                                        from here

as an earthquake again hit Christchurch
the damage is horrific

and as I write this,  search and rescue teams
from Queensland (and the rest of Australia)  are on
their way to help.

We are two strong nations and with each others help
we will survive

My prayers are with the people of Christchurch tonight

Goodnight

  2. Prayers from here too. Christchurch is so much like Victoria - built in the same period and looks a lot like our city. We're watching and praying that there will be no more for New Zealand.

  3. Nature needs to give it a bit of a rest for a while I think. Yet again I am glued to ABC 24. It's just awful...all that death and destruction.

  4. I totally agree Julienne. When is it all going to end? I don't think our South Pacific region can take many more of these natural disasters. ;)Sharyne

  6. Dearest Julienne,

What a fate for both nations! Hope with strong faith it will pull both of them through; with united efforts people seem to be able to move mountains...

Wishing you lots of strength and a happy weekend.

    Love,

    Mariette

  7. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. I am sad looking at the pictures of the devastation. I will keep all of you in my prayers. Yes, you will recover, all of you will. It's just so hard to lose the personal things that no amount of money can replace.
